If I were entitled to only one pair of shoes I would go with black Chinese Mary Janes. Why? To begin with they are affordable. Sturdy cotton, silk, and velvet Chinese shoes go with any fabric in any season, dressy or casual. I have seen them on teenage girls, middle age executives and little old ladies. They fit any type of foot because they simply take the shape of the foot they are on, and the little strap makes the foot look smaller.

These are really classic and simple mary janes, which i really appreciate, and I love that they come in so many colors. Unfortunately, there is no way to keep them buckled (aside from actually pinning them). I don't think I would pay twenty bucks for them again until the makers decide to attach a REAL clasp to them. Also the soles are pretty thin, so your feet are going to be pounding the pavement all day. Besides the inconveniences I mentioned, however, they are very cute and go with everything.

I wear these shoes all the time because they go with everything! The only problem is that I go through them so quickly! I often run a hole through the sole and they don't always stay buckled (so sometimes I safety pin them--classy!). But I still love these shoes!
